Chicken by Marvin

One day I got a chicken. My mom said that we were going to eat the
chicken but I told them no. My brother grabbed the chicken and tried to
cut its head off. So I told my mom and she said not to eat the chicken.
I kept it outside and later I kept it in thelaundry room. Then I put
him in my bedroom and I feed it to what it eats. Then we got a puppy.
He's name is Smokey and my brother put him in the room with my chicken. My chicken just stood there and so did the dog. I thought they might get in a fight so I got Smokey out of my room. My brothers were laughing until I told them that I took Smokey out. We had the chicken for half of the school year. We had to move and we had to give the chicken away so we looked for a place for him to live. We found one place on a farm by my school in West Jordan. Now he lives there.

A Fisherman's Day by Zach

There was a fisherman that was doing his daily schedule getting ready to go out to the ocean. It was a hot summer day with a few clouds in the sky. His wife said, "Don't go out today. I have a bad feeling." "I have to go to earn money so we can eat," said the fisherman. After three hours the fisherman had caught nothing. Then a storm started out of the middle of no where. The fisherman tried to get out of it. The next thing the fisherman knew he was in the water. Then he saw it - the giant squid heading right for him. The squid grabbed him and swam away to an underwater cave. The fisherman said to the squid, "Thank you for saving me from drowning," said the fisherman. "Since I did you a favor, you have to do me a favor," said the squid. "Yes anything for you," said the fisherman. "I want you to stop fishing," said the squid. "No," said the fisherman. "If you don't I will keep you here until you will stop," said the squid. "Fine I will stop," said the fisherman. "Now I will take you home to your wife," said the squid. "Thank you,” said the fisherman. The next thing that the fisherman remembered was he woke up on the beach next to his house. He ran inside and told his wife everything that happened. They agreed that the fisherman must keep his promise. To this day, he has never gone fishing again.

The Vacation by Randi

Once there was a man who worked about twelve hours a day. He hadn't taken a day off in 3 years. One day his boss came up to him and said, "Here's a one way ticket to the Caribbeans. Go for a week, Have fun and relax." So he went home to pack. The next day he went to the airport. As he was checking in for his flight, the lady at the desk said, "If I were you I wouldn't go on that flight." "Why," he asked. The lady responded and said,"It is hurricane season." He thought to himself, "What if something bad happens when I'm gone, but what the heck nothing bad ever happens too me and besides I haven't had a break in 3 years!" So he got on the plane and about 6 hours later he was in his hotel.

The next day he went down to the beach and played football with some of his new friends that he met at his hotel the night before. After a game of football they went too a bar and had some food. After that they went home and just played cards and poker. The next day they went to the beach again and they were playing football again. Then they heard some one call out hurricane! So they all started running and screaming and trying to find their families. The wind was blowing in ever direction. Houses were torn down and trees were knocked over. After the hurricane was over the man said,"Now I know why I don't take time off work!" Then he started thinking and he decided to stay and help them out. About 4 weeks went by and he decided it was time for him too leave. So he got on a small plane and went back. The next day he told his boss all about it and his boss said, "I only gave you ONE week off and you took 4. You're fired!"

Summer Break by Ms. George

Summer Break - How do I love thee? Let me count the ways:

1. No trabajo, obvio. (Translation: Obviously, I don't work.)

2. BBQs - What's not to love? Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, dips, veggie trays, and to top it off, popsicles.

3. Swimming. Okay, let's be honest - more laying out than swimming. Imagine, laying on an over-sized towel until beads of sweat appear all over you body. Then jumping into the pool just to get out and do it all over again.

4. Summer Fashion - I'm not a big fan of shorts (in fact, I only own one pair and they're actually my brothers) but, I do love short skirts, summer dresses, sandals, and pedicures.

5. Two words - Road Trip.

6. Summer Blockbusters - You know what I'm talking about; ridiculously over-budgeted movies with even more ridiculous plots. I love them!!

7. Quintessential Americana - baseball games, parades, fireworks, camping (and when I say camping, I mean going up the canyon, roasting marshmallows, and returning home that evening).

8. A return to my nocturnal ways. Seriously, is it normal to go to bed at 10:30 pm? NO! 3:00 am? Yes, that's more like it.

9. It almost goes without saying, but the weather. For those who know me, you know I'm almost always cold. However, for three glorious months - June, July, & August - my teeth rarely chatter.

10. Summer Reading. Yes, I actually get to read books that weren't written for teenagers. I know, it's almost unheard of.

Series by Jared

Scary sounds that I fear to hear.
The sound of hearing a family emergency call.
Pounding sounds against my front door.
Hearing the sounds of family and friends in danger.
Hearing the sound when the green line goes flat.
I hope I will never encounter those sounds.

Two Tone Poem by Jared

I am the color of the dark gray
lonely night, silent and helpless,
sad and at the same time mad.

I am also blue like the empty ocean sea living
without color, empty without colors
that make me happy like a happy beach
reef, full of happy colorful fish and happy
all time

But dont worry about me because
some times I am fine
