The Races with my Brother by Dulce

I went to see the races with my brother Danny. It was on 8-15-07. It was the best thing I ever did with my brother. It was fun because my brother was telling me & my sister about the engine and their speed. It was so cool. It made me want to know more about the cars.

American Heroes by Iyan

America has had alot of heroes that have made it better over the years. There are many American heroes such as Paul Revere, Jonas Salk, and Cesar Chaves. These are some of the people who helped build America.

Paul Revere was an American hero. He was part of the Boston Tea Party. He warned other patriots of a British advance. After the war he became a silver smith. That is why Paul is an American hero.

Jonas Salk was an American hero. He made the first polio vaccine. He started the Salk Institue for Biological Studies. He tried to make a vaccine for cancer and AIDS. That is why Jonas is an American hero.

Cesar Chaves was an American hero. He started the UFW. He led a boycott against California grape owners. He improved working conditions for farm workers. That is why Cesar is an American hero.

These were some of the many people you helped build America. Some saved it. Others improved it. But all helped build it.

The Weekend by Zach

I did different things this weekend. One of the things I did was I went to my last football game of this year. Another thing I did was when my casin came over he brought his scooter and we went to an empty parking lot. We scootered there for about three to four hours. Then we went back to my house and played videogames. We played a football game, and then we played a game called "Sims." After that we went back to the parking lot and scootered more but this time we video recorded it. That is what I did on the weekend.

Martin Luther King Jr by Diana

Martin Luther King Jr was an American hero. In 1955 he was asked to lead the city boycott. His house was fire-bombed or other times he was beaten or thrown into jail. He also lead more then 200,000 people in the march of Washington, DC. These are the reasons why Martin Luther King Jr is an American hero.

My Hometown By Carolina

My hometown is in Sonora, Mexico. It is so pretty over there. It's a small town where I was born. I saw the hospital where I was born. I went to Aribabi it is the smallest town ever. There is only 2 rows of houses. If you want to go to the store it takes 15 min just to get there because it is far. Also there is a mountain called la montana del diablo (The Mountain of the Devil). They call it that because there is lots of curves and if you stop and look down from the mountain you can't see the ground. It is so dark you can't see anything that is down there. When your driving you can see tomb stones because people have died there. Also you see eagles flying above you. It is really beautiful looking at everything but once in awhile you start getting home sick. You start missing your friends, your home, your room, and your boyfriend. Oh and while you are over there the time passes really fast.

Ms. George, Why did you have a substitute? by Senorita Jorge

Last month I participated in the Jordan School District's Amazing Race. JSD's Amazing Race is based on the CBS show where teams race around the world from check point to check point doing challenges. Instead of racing around the world, our teams (made up mostly of geography teachers) race around SLC using GPS units to locate check points. We also had to do several challenges. This was the second year I'd participated. Last year, my school won!! To read more about last year, click HERE.

This year we did not, but we had tons of fun while our students stayed at school with substitute teachers. Here are a few pictures:

Me, Ms. Logan, & Ms. Allen checking our GPS units at the Trax Station.

Me, Ms. Allen, Ms. Bradfield, & Ms. Logan at the first Pit Stop.

Me climbing the rock wall. This was our last challenge. One team member was to climb to the top and retrieve our team flag. I was chosen to complete it (even though we had a P.E. teacher on our team) because I was the only one who had ever rock climbed before.

Still Climbing . . . Half-way there.

Still Climbing . . . Almost got it.

Haunted House by Brenda & Miche

There was a very old old haunted house. It was way back in a dark forest. This house was so old that there were vines swallowing the house. The paint was coming off. The roof was dark like the pits of hell. Inside the house the wood was as dark as night. There were spider webs everywhere, to many to count. When you walked up the stairs they would creek and it sounded like they said, "Get out or die." They were also very loud. Some of the time it looked like someone was looking out the window like a white cat staring at you like it is going to kill you. That is kinda scary. There are ghosts everywhere. That is our haunted house.

My Home Town by Zach

My hometown is Eagle River, Alaska. I lived there for most of my life. I lived there for about 8 years. I went to two schools there before I was in 5th grade. I met a lot of people there. I still go back and visit my friends. When I visit my friends I go to shows with them, when we go to the shows we usly see local bands play. We also go to parties. Most of the time we just hang out at everyone’s house all the time. Sometimes we just walk around town. We go to stores and get soda or a snack. That’s what I do when I go back to my hometown.

How to Protect your Bike from Bike Theives E-mail by Iyan

Dear Dead Man,
Hi dead man. I'm in college and I want to find out how to keep my bike safe from bike theives so I figured if I can think like one, I can protect my bike. So how would you try to steal my bike.
From Silent J, Miami

Dear Silent J
Hu not smart enuf for m.i.t. just m.i. will you don't have to worey about me stealing your crapy bike with its baseball card in the wheel and the girly pink handlebars. But lets pretend that you do have a prettey cool bike. Such as Montian bike or 10-speed bike. The first thing I would do is dress up like a bush. so stay away from anything with cartoon eye holes. Another way I will steal your bike is to carry a petition, very affective on college students. Heck I stole people's lunch, girlfriends, cars, cats and even puppies. If none of those work I'd yse the best of all cat burglery. But I always get stuck on the back of the couch. But keep bike off glass buildings. So there you go silent J.
From Dead Man

p.s. Attention all bike thives use bolt cutters will split the money later.

My Favorite Place by WB

My home is one of my favorite places. Its a great place to relax and rest.
I don't need to worry while I'm there. There are a lot of great relaxing things to do there such as sleep, watch T.V, play games, talk to family members, and play computer. (not a mac)

I love when it's dinner. I always get a good meal. I sometimes help make food. Eggs and pizza are the only thing I can make. There are two sheds in my back yard, with a lot of cool parts I can play with.

One of the bad things is when my brother's kids come over. They think you have to do everything their way or its the end of the world. They make noise none stop and won't shut up on their life. The worst thing about it is my mom babysits them Monday - Friday. But the oldest one Kyle is going back to schoool soon. It will make things a lot better.

Rachal Carson by WB

Rachal Carson was an American hero. She changed the course of history. She started the environmental movement by writing Silent Spring. In the book she told people the dangers of chemicals to wild life. She helped people see the need to protect the environment. That is how she helped change the world.

American Heroes by Randi

What is an Amrican hero? Well i know who were Amrican heros.one was Rachel Carson. another amrican hero was Mother Jones. Jonas Salk was another. This is only 3 of the many Amirican heros that changed the world.

Rachel Carson was and amrican hero. She started the erisment movmentby writing slient spring. In the book she told people about the dangers of chemials to wild life and leving things. She helped people see the need to protect the envoroment. That is how Rachel Carson changed the cource of history.

Mother Jones is another american hero.Mother Jones led a march of the mill chlidren. She also worked on behalf of the miners for 50 years. the miners called her "the miners angels" and the miners owners called her "the most dangerest woman alive." This is why she is an amrican hero.

Jones Salk is an amrican hero.Well he did develop the first polio vaccine. He also was the founder and director of the Salk instuite. Because of his vaccine Frankli D. Rosevelt was saved. I think Jones Salk is a great american hero.

Little Stuff About ME by A.L.

This weeked I went to the movies. It was super fun but the movie was wierd. Then we took pictures togther. It was fun. On the first day of school it was scary because I was the only one that did not know anybody. But the good thing about this school is that there are cute guys. But I miss my old school so bad. I liked all my class in my old school especially on red days. I loved red days so bad. I never liked black days. They always took forever.

The Concert By Randi

One day there were five people named Randi, Miche, Dillon, Alex, and Nico. They were going to a concert. Randi bought all their tickets. It was all their first concert except Randi's. When they got there they waited in line for about an hour. When they got in they went too look at the merchaindice but no one bought any thing. Then we went to the crowd to try and get to the front. The first band that came on was The Red. They weren't a big band. The second band was Buck Cherry. They were great! Then the biggest band there came out Three Days Grace. They were the biggest band and the best. While they played Randi and Miche decided to go in the mosh pits. They asked the boys and they said no they were all too scared.

So Randi and Miche went into the mosh pits. After about 5or 7 songs Randi got a text from her mom saying,"lets leave early soo we aren't stuck here all night long." So Randi and Miche went and got the boys and we met up with my mom out side and
We left early. On are way home Nico was in the front and Randi, Miche, Dillon, Alex were in the back. Nico fell asleep so Dillon pulled his hair and ripped a lot of his hair out and he still didnt wake up. They dropped Alex, Dillon, and Nico off and then we went too miche's house. The next day all they did was talk about how much fun they had at the concert.

The Greasers and Socs by WB

The greasers are what I call real friends. If a friend don't follow the rules, they pay up. But yet at the same time if they need another friend they will be there for them.

The socs are spoiled, rich, and classy. They throw wild parties. They can get away with any thing.

I don't think I'm like a greaser or a soc. I'm not rich nor poor. I don't go out on the street and fight. I don't go to wild beer parties. So I think I fit in between.
